Hugo vs.Hart

So I finally took the plunge and started reading the unabridged Les Miserable's by Victor Hugo. I've been wanting to read it for ages so I set a New Years goal to actually do it and started a couple of weeks ago. If you don't know this book it's an epic, it's a 1400 page behemoth, it's, well, large. So it took some doing, I mean committing to it and I have to say I have been pleasantly suprised. I am only about 400 pages into it and so far, excepting a very detailed history of the battle of waterloo for no real apparent reason, it is really going. I am totally falling in love with the characters; I want to be just like the Bishop, I love Jean Valjean and his unpredictability, I weep for Fantine...... but sometimes, secretly, I would rather be reading these.....

I'm such a dufus.

I've also been reading the unabridged Les Miserables (since last summer) and I love it. However, I have taken breaks to read about 15 other books along the way, so I'll probably finish it in about 3 years or so. Then my book for 2010-2012 will be A Tale of Two Cities.

Yes Karen, but have you read Les Miserables in French? It is the authentic original version. Well I haven't either, I have the original French copy of Les Miserables, but it sits on shelf yet to be read. I need to read it or I'll lose my French.
