We had an absolutely fabulous weekend. It started off with a bang and a birthday. Happy Birthday Tim. You are an incredible person through and through. That's all I'm gonna say because I know others read this blog and I don't want to embarass you, but you all get the idea right? Totally amazing. I made Tim his favorite pies, chocolate and coconut cream, we sang Happy Birthday and opened some presents.

Then the party really started, AFTER WE LEFT THE CHILDREN AT HOME!!!, and galivanted in the city. We ended up at Green Apple books, Tim's fave bookstore where we bought several books, score!!! And picked up some Thai food on the way home to round out the evening, thanks Tim for having the Birthday.

Next morning headed to Santa Cruz where several of Tims' high school/church friends camp every memorial day weekend. Blast from the past. I tell ya people, between the three of them there are 11 children under the age of 7. Multiply and replenish the earth... CHECK!! It was great to catch up and watch all the little ones just loving eachother.

So Tim and the boys have a mantra that fills our saturdays "Work Hard... Play Hard." The boys know that in order to play hard they first need to work hard. We played hard all day saturday therefore we were required to work hard all day Monday. So lots of projects were finished off and we are feeling good, including the garden!!!

Perfecting the Art of Neglect.

Ok you guys, I have a confession to make,I am a literature snob, or at least I want to be. I have such little time to read that I feel like I can only read books that challenge my mommy brain. For example, and this is total nerdom that I am admitting here...I feel compelled to read books that require me to run for my trusty pocket dictionary. So when a friend of mine suggested "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer I laughed it off and firmly re-stuck my nose back into the never-ending saga of Jean Val Jean. And then perchance Tim and I happened to be strolling along in Barnes and Noble and low and behold... a whole table dedicated to all things Twilight.

I picked it up.

I paid for it.

I read it in three hours.

I asked my husband to return to the store to pick up the next two in the series... after all Mothers day was fast approaching. I gobbled those up in a matter of days. And so you can imagine what my house looks like, meals consist of anything that I can find in the freezer or in a can, my children are sitting idly by waiting for their mother to return and I will... eventually. Happy reading everyone.

Your weekly history lesson

We've been studying the ancient people of Crete, known as the Minoans, for the past little while. Anyway it seems as though they were wiped out by a devestating volcano that occured on another island but that covered Crete with ash and left it uninhabitable. I figured it is a rite of passage for elementary students to create their own volcanos so here is ours.

Before the "explosion":
